Default does coconut oil help you lose weight faster?

I have been reading that some of you are taking coconut oil and it's helping you lose weight faster! Tell me that it's true!!! Living here in Hawaii....I should be able to ahold of that pretty easy (most of the lc stuff hasn't made it's way here yet). I know this is an ongoing effort, but hey I'll take the losing fast no problem. Then I just got to keep it off!

It didn't work weight-loss miracles for me. It IS, however a good oil to use, full of all KINDS of good things. There are threads about it in the supplements section, just go there and run a search for coconut oil and you'll get quite a bit.

It is a great oil for cooking, etc...not sure if it helps you lose faster, but it is a good oil to consume anyway.

Might just be a coincidence, but since I started using it 10 days ago, I've lost 5 pounds.

it is supposedly supposed to increase your metabolism very slightly. I would use it more for all the other benefits but make sure to use a good virgin unrefined oil. You can read about the benefits at www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com

Check out the suppliments forum. There is a sticky dedicated to coconut oil.

It does have health benifits. Many claim it can help increase basal body temp, which is good for people with tyriod trouble.

Soem start to suppliment with it and find they gain weight. It is important to rememebr that it is an oil and does have calories. For some people that's a good thing as they aren't getting enough calories and fat. For others though it could be too much and they have to scale back a little somewhere else.

I loved it because if you get a high quality one the taste is great. It really helped me get my cals and fat up when I wouldn't eat dairy and can't really afford red meat.

I get virgin oil. The best source I've found is www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com They also have an amazing unsweetened shredded cocontu that's just like candy. It tastes nothing like the regular store dry coconut, which is usually dry and tasteless.

It seems to have some interesting properties given that it is one of few natural MCT sources. Its utility in something like an ultimate diet 2.0 for potentially helping to speed the transition to fat oxidation is kind of interesting.

From the few studies I glanced at, I think the intake would need to be something ridiculous like 50% of total cals coming from mct's to give a substantial benefit though metabolically.

Calorie balance is stil where it is at! Laws of thermodynamics are surprisingly difficult to manipulate! I get a lot more from refeeds and cho overfeeds than I ever have by supplementing with a different type of fat lol.
