Default Yet Another Steroids Question

Hello!

My doctor has prescribed a MASSIVE dose of steroids for me beginning the 13th of January - 80 mg of prednisone a day for two weeks; very gradual weaning off after that. I have had steroids in the past and am not looking forward to many of the side effects - the last time I did this I managed to gain about 50 pounds!! Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to mitigate some of the horribleness of this?? Help in advance, please!

Thanks

Hi Deanne,

I can't offer much except sympathy. I've only ever had 50mg daily, and that's bad enough.

One thing I do know is that the fluid retention which is caused by the steroids is dramatically less when I'm low carbing. I can't really judge the hunger thing, because I've only had the prednisone for one 5 day course since on LC. But I suspect you'll find that even that (the hunger) will be a bit less as long as you are on LC.
The other interesting thing is that when I used to have that dreadful "steroid hunger," all I wanted to eat was savoury stuff. Absolutely not interested in sweet stuff, which was amazingly different for me pre LC. Of course ODing on pasta and rice didn't help.

I wish you all the best with it. Please let us know how it goes.

Roz

Hi Deanne,

Monika (her forum name is AntiM) has had a lot of experience with steroids. You might want to ask this question in her journal or send her a private message.
