Question Newbie has many questions

I am fairly new to this site and have a few questions.

1. What is the difference between CAD and CALP. I just started reading the CALP book, but am curious as to why two plans?

2. I have been loosing very slowly, can this have something to do with the medications I am on? Presently I am taking Zestril, Lipidor and Wellbutrin. Also, I am 57 years old.

3. I have been following the Atkins plan since 9/1/02, but am considering changing to CALP, is there a problem with that?

4. Can I substitute unsweetened seltzer for some of the water each day?

Any responses to the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Eileen

Hi and welcome, Eileen! Your questions:

1. I'm not sure, but that would be a useful question for the CAD forum. I think CALP is the later edition of CAD, the 1991 book.

2. Not sure/not sure/probably. Antidepressants can cause weight gain and/or slow weight loss. I think it's because they interfere with carbohydrate metabolism. Age is probably a factor, too, since metabolism tends to slow as we age.

3. Probably not, if you're not prone to bingeing. Some people find it too easy to abuse the 'reward meal' concept. However, it will probably slow your weight loss, since CAD isn't a ketogenic diet.

4. Generally, water is better, but a nice seltzer sure hits the spot.

Good luck!

CALP is a later version of CAD with more rules and explanations and things to do for stalls.

Seltzer water is fine.

Good luck and welcome!

You could search the net for both the CAD & CALP plans for a fuller explanation. Or go to the link on the right side of this page: Which LC plan is right for me?" and see what is explained there.

You can change to any LC plan you choose - this board is here to support not dictate your choice. It appears that all of these work for many people and we must each choose which one is right for our own body.

With the medications you take and your age, loss may be slow but it can still happen if you perist and are patient in following your chosen plan.

Hope you find your ideal plan.
