Default 1 Month on Atkins...terrible hunger pangs! Help!

Hey All... I have been perusing these boards for the last few days and have found some awesome ideas....

Here is my problem... Yesterday was my one month anniversary on Atkins... no cheating.... lost 20 pounds... still following induction.

I have been following my normal routine today, but my hunger pangs are overwhelming.

Any ideas, suggestions, or reasons why I might be experiencing this?

Thanks!

Hi there Web, welcome!

How much are you eating? Remember this is not meant to be a low calorie diet. At your weight you need to be eating at least 2000 calories.

If you use www.fitday.com (a free site) you will get a list of the carbs, fat, protein and calories you have eaten.

How about listing here what you eat in a normal day, and someone will easily be able to tell if you are eating enough.

Cheers.

Also make sure to eat enough fat. Atkins is a high fat diet not a high protien one. Fat is what signals your brain you are full.

If you are hungry, eat. You should eat wehn you jsut start to get hungry, before you are starving, and stop when satisfied. Also examine your menu for hidden carbs that may be triggering hunger.

Even when you do everything by the book, there are still times when it seems nothing can satisfy you. That usually comes right before a weight loss, or just before time of month for most people. Hang in there, eat low carb foods, and look on here for suggestions. For me what cured the hunger was a bowel of broccoli cauliflowr mix with colby jack cheese melted on top

I agree...FAT! If you don't eat adequate fat and protein in each of your meals...you will experience these "pangs". If you get into Ketosis....than hunger should diminish for the most part...but the pangs won't. I know, been there. Make sure you are getting a combo of fat/protein at each meal...don't go more than 5-6 hourse between eating...and eat small snacks in between meals of a lc food if you get the pangs during these times.

Good luck and congrats on your 20 lbs loss! That is great!

I went through the same thing. I was eating enough calories, but as others have pointed out, they were not good FAT calories. Lean Chicken was on sale so I bought in bulk... woops.. lol... If you cannot stomach just eating such rich foods, combine them..(if you like lean chicken.. top it with some bacon and melted cheese...)
