Default Onion soup or dip mix?

Do any of you know what I can use to substitute for the Knorr mix?
I am currently living in Bangkok so I would have to make everything
from scratch.... I love the dip made with using sour cream and some mayo
but I have run out of my stock from the US. Any suggestions would be
quite helpful.

Thanks in advance.......................

It will be easy to find containers of sliced fried shallots in Bangkok since they are used in many of the dishes. Try using that with a powdered beef boullion which is also available in Bangkok. In fact Knorr makes it.

Have you thought of contacting Unilever, the parent company to see if it's available in Thailand?

Bangkok also has "American" stores where American products are sold. You might try there too.

I have been to all of the "American" style food markets here, Villa and Emporium included, but they do not have the soups like this, only the cubes of the clear soups, with MSG included. I was able to pick up some of the mixes in Singapore last week but would like to be able to make it here from scratch. Shallots are a very easy thing to find here, we use them in everything. But is there something else that you can recommend for the base, trying to stay away from MSG if possible.

Thanks..........................

Try caramelizing thinly sliced onion and a small amount of bell pepper together, Then add some soy sauce and slowly evaporate it. Cool, then then pulse it in a food processor.

Ah, why didn't you say so at first? I was assuming you wanted something based on the Knorr Onion Soup ingredients.

Dehydrated Onions, Potato Starch, Hydrolyzed Protein (Corn, Soy, Wheat), Salt, Beef Fat, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar, Monosodium Glutamate, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Lactose, Maltodextrin, Color Added, Natural Flavors, Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed and Soybean Oils, Spices, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Dextrose, Dextrin, Lactic Acid, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate, Citric Acid, and Dehydrated Tomato.
