Default measurements instead of weighing...

Sincs I am not in the cash position to shell out $$$$ for an expensive scale, I was wondering how I shoudl measure??

Basically most of my weight is in my XXXXlarge stomach, and chest

and some in my upper legs and arms.

Do I just measure like I would for a suit fitting, i.e. chest waist?

My problem is I wear my pants below my stomach so i might only wear a 52waist but my stomach is much more than that !!!

Just trying to figure out how to do it, so when i do get on thet scale it will be under 350

This is how I was taught to do measurements in my high school home economics class....uhumm,,... 20+ years ago.
I think it still applies.

You are essentially trying to find the "largest" place to measure.
I also carry most of my weight in waist.

I find that it helps if I just wear my bra and panties and stand in front of a full length (or mostly full length) mirror to see if I'm putting the measuring tape all around myself in the right place.

For the Waist:
Place the measuring tape around the waist area (above the belly button) going around the largest part.

For the Hips:
Place the tape around lower abdominal area making sure the tape goes around the largest part of your butt.

For the Chest:
Same thing -- take the tape around the largest area.

Some other good measurements to follow is the Thigh and Forearm and Calf.

The important thing is to be consistent with how and where on your body that you measure. After you do it a few times, you get used to "where" you measure.

Again, I think it helps if you do this in front of a mirror.

Hope this helps.

It's up to you how often you want to check.

Whenever I was tracking mine on a regular basis, I used to take them every week on the same day, same time of day.

I used to have a lot of fluid retention, so I would check it first thing in the morning, every Sunday morning.

But, you can check it any time you want to.

I HATE it when I take my measurements or weight and not see a loss, now I wait until I "feel" like I've lost something or I can see a slight difference in my stomach, neck or forearms.

Oh, that's another measurement you might find interesting to track--your neck.

You've got me motivated, now. I think I'm gonna take my measurements today and start tracking them regularly again.

Cool I'm a once-a-week-er

I also do my mine first thing in the morning on the same day of the week. There have been very few weeks that I haven't see a loss somewhere, so it's been a good motivator for me.

Cool

I wish I had remembered to take my measurements when I first began...

...but unfortunately I didn't begin measuring until I was 6 months in.

Measuring is a good thing, and I think you'll find many people in this forum that will recommend it. However, it's also important to get an accurate reading of your weight from time to time, I believe.

I know scales can be expensive. I don't even recall how much I paid for mine, but it was probably $200. It was a stretch for me too at the time, but I really, really wanted to have it to record my progress. I shopped the Internet and there were many options.

BTW, I assume you're not under a doctor's care for anything, otherwise I would suggest stopping by for a weigh in. You might also try the local YMCA or call your hospital and ask them if they would let you drop by for a weigh in.

Just some ideas.

Good luck to you! This does work, I was bigger than you!!!

Default Hi brw1973!

You seem to have a shape similar to mine. My waist is samer than my belly. I take measurements of my chest, belly (fullest part), waist, thigh, and arm. I measure every other week on Tuesday morning. So far, the least I've lost is 1.5 inches. Seems the tape is more kind to me than the scale, which is OK by me!

Good luck! Hope to hear more from you.

Cheers!

BrewWA
