I was just wondering if under 20 carbs is necessary for ketosis??? Like if I have a little bit over will it effect the process?? And if so how much over? I do have the book and I have read most but don't remember reading any clear answer about this!

Ann

Some people can tolerate a little over on induction, some people can't. It depends on your body. I believe the purpose of the 20 gr is to get you into the habit of being on a strict regime for induction. In Protein Power, you start at 30 gr not 20, and if you follow it correctly you still get into ketosis. If it was a one time slip up, then don't sweat it. Get back to the 20 gr level for the rest of induction, then follow what Dr. Atkins says for boosting carbs after induction.

Hi Ann

On induction it is certainly worth trying to keep at 20g or under of carbs. However, after induction then you start to add in carbs until you stop loosing weight. As you add in those extra carbs you should still remain in ketosis. The initial induction is to get you off to a good start, to remove all those excess carbs from the body and to kick start ketosis. Once there you will stay in ketosis, provided you don't add too many carbs. If you go over the top on one day, or have a slight lapse, then just reduce the carb level the next day and carry on.
