I started atkins yesterday morning and my boyfriend complained bitterly last night about my bad breath.
So I figured that it must be ketosis, but after less than 24 hours?

This morning I bought some ketostix and tested my urine and sure enough there is a moderate to large amount of ketones.

Is it normal for it to happen so quickly?

It varies for everyone. Normal seems to be about 3 to 4 days, but 1 to 2 days is not unusual.

i'm in ketosis by day 3. fortunately never had the breath of death problem. i think someone said, more water?

I was also in ketosis within 24 hours and was very shocked to see this. I still periodically check using the stix....but while I don't have bad breath (at least no one is backing away quickly...lol), I do notice the slight metallic taste in my mouth which makes me happy cuz I know I'm in ketosis and things are working the way they should!

I'm drinking about 4 litres a day already and have to go to the bathroom every hour.

I've bought some oil pills that you swallow - supposed help make your breathe smell good from the inside rather than make your mouth smell good.
