Default Confused about effective carbs...

Could someone please explain about the new labeling that is showing up of lots of products about their "effective carbs". Does that mean if a product say 24 g/carbs and 2 g/fiber , but then claims it only has 3 g/effective carbs and that is the number to consider for low carbing that 3 g/carbs is all I count?
Thanks!
Kris

What it means is if there are 24g/carbs, and 2 g/fiber you subract the 2g/fiber, giving you 22 net (or effective) carbs.

Then you also subract sugar alcohol's which in the product you are looking at I assume comes out to 19g. Bring you to the net total of 3 net carbs.

You can subtract sugar alcohol's because they do not effect you blood suger levels. Also keep in mind that some people have a problem handling sugar alcohol's, causeing stalls in some or a sensitivity in some.

I hope this helps you!
