I know reall food is better, but when you start looking at alternatives for food buying low cal products. It sad that on the internet that you would have to pay $10 for a loaf of bread, and $6.00 for syrup, plus having to pay $5.00-8.00 shipping no matter how little you order. I hope as people finally realize that low carb is the way to live more food that is low in carb will be less expensive and more assessible in the grocery stores.

I use this site (netrition.com) to buy all my lc crackers and stuff. The shipping here is only $4.95 no matter how big the order and me and a friend here at work split the order and the shipping.

It is usually at my house within 2 days.

Thumbs down

This is why I rarely buy "specialty" products. I go to the local supermarket and buy:

Wasa crisp bread
Sour cream, cheeses, butter, heavy cream
soy flour, soy crisps
All types of meats
All types of veggies - fresh and frozen combos
Salad by the bagfuls
Avacado
Salad dressing
bacon
etc....

In other words the "regular" foods. The only indulgence is Atkins Advantage Shakes that I buy at Walmart for those "breakfast and snacks on the go"

It is a shame that low-carb specialty foods are so high-priced. I am hoping as more and more people Low Carb that manufacturers will get into the swing and make low-carb products more readily available and less expensive. Until then, eat normal food 90% of the time (they taste better anyway)

I too have become quite disenchanted with the lack of availability for those seeking LC products in the mainstream market place. I was strolling through my neighborhood supermarket this afternoon looking for some LC products and found none.

Ordering bread through the internet sounds a little eccentric to me. LOL (no offense meant, of course.)

Default Eat Natural

I recommend that we eat naturally. I don't care for processed foods at all. I rarely even eat anything out of a can. Atkins lets us eat fresh vegetables [or frozen] and fresh protein. I think many of us are probably hyper-sensitive to starches anyway. I can live without bread, or any substitute thereof, if its going to help me be slim. All of that super processed "alternative" food holds no fascination for me at all. There are so many great vegetables to eat. I guess if you need to skip a meal, one of those Atkins bars, or a shake, could help. But I wouldn't use those things on a regular basis.

I have to agree with Frederick. If I had to order from the internet to get the low carb products that I wanted to try or use, I'd probably only do it rarely (I think I've ordered low carb products via the internet twice in 2 years).
Ever check the shipping charges on perishible foods?
I do live in an area where the availability and selection of low carb products is fairly good (and getting better, I might add), but the longer I low carb, the less I tend to use these products.
OTOH, I did make a special trip to the health food store today to get soy protein powder, unprocessed wheat bran, whole almonds and vital wheat gluten to make some recipes that are in a new cookbook I got. I figure if I can learn to make these things myself, it will not only save me $$, but I'll also know exactly what's in them. I made cranberry muffins (mostly for the kids) and dinner rolls (mostly for DH) and they both turned out well and were even pretty tasty. Aside from the Splenda, all the ingredients were minimally processed and natural.
Okay...maybe I'm more adventurous in the kitchen than most, but I've never preferred mixes over home made and if this is going to be a WOL for me, I'd rather learn how to make my own goodies than be dependent on an industry that practically makes you sign over your firstborn for some of their products.
