Question Planning my Meals

Hi Everyone! I haven't started yet because I am reading the book now (I just got it yesterday).

I get that my carbs in the induction stage have to be 20 grams. I want to have 6 meals a day.

My question is for 3 of my meals can I have proten shakes and do I need to add carbs to that?

This is the breakdown of the Iso-Pro Low Carb shake(whey protein Isolate)

Nutrition Information:
1 scoop=35 grams per serving

Energy 131 calories
Protein 30 grams
Fat 0.6 grams
Carbs 1.4 grams
Sucralose 28 miligrams

Ingredients: cros flow microfiltered whey protein isolate, glucomannan, sucralose, alpha lipoic acid, D-pinitol, bromelain, natural and artificial flavours.

Add water /milk/juice.
I will add water

I was thinking 3 shakes plus 3 regular Atkins meals.
Is this shake okay?

Does this mean my carbs are 1.4g + 28 mg?
Or just 1.4 grams?

Should I add a carb when having the shake or should I keep the rest of my carbs for my meals?

Also how do you measure your salad? Do you use a scale? The 3 cups a day doesn't seem like that much. When I look at my measuring cup.

Also did you have physicals before you started? Did you do blood work? I am wondering if I should do all that before I start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Post hello

I have not been doing this that long, but I have never used the atkins shakes. I find myself more satisfied eating real food. That's the great thing about this WOL it allows you to eat good satisfying meals. You can have deviled eggs,or hardboiled eggs for snacks, cheese, meat, salads. During induction it is a learning process and I feel that sticking to your basics is best. Here's a sample of what I'd eat during induction.

Breakfast- ommelett with 2 eggs, cheese, and ham

Lunch- Grilled chicken salad w/Ranch dressing

Dinner- Steak and salad w/Ranch dressing Also Drink tons of water it really helps they recommend 64oz plus 8oz for every 25lbs you have to lose!

Eat when you are hungry and only the allowed foods during induction, but always keep it 20g no more than that. Now as for snacks I wasn't very hungry during induction, but I really don't see any prob with the atkins shake as a snack if you keep your carbs at a maximum of 20grams. I personally wouldn't be satisfied using them as meal replacements. I like my real food too much.

You can also break up the three meals into five small ones. An egg here.. some salad there.. It all takes experimenting and if you browse some journals I know you'll find a lot of ideas for food. Skamito always has good food ideas in her journal if you may wanna look her up. Her journal always gives me ideas for new things so I do not get bored. I hope that helps. I'm not sure if the Atkins shakes are allowed during induction, because I don't have my book handy.. Maybe some of the experts can better answer you. Sorry that is best I can do Best of Luck!

Red, welcome to this WOE! I'm so glad you're taking the time to really read the book closely, as that will be so helpful in your success.

I personally don't use the shakes at all, because I'm so enjoying the great foods I can have. Fried chicken (with pork rind coating), mashed "potatoes" (pureed cauliflower with cheese, bacon, cream), delicious salads with hard boiled egg, sliced seasoned meat, and cheeses---yum. There are so many great recipes on this forum, too, so welcome to the adventure!

I have found the learning curve on cooking for this WOE to be considerable, but manageable. Each week that goes by my cupboards become more Atkins, less other (my family is not yet doing this WOE so we still have some of their food around). It's really been fun to surf around to the online product suppliers and to check out all the new foods available to me.

Welcome home, Red!
