Default Does ketosis necessarily mean weight loss?

I have been on the Atkins induction plan for about six weeks, with “minor” cheats (one day each) at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am using the Ketosis sticks and other than those holidays, I am staying in ketosis. That should be good news.

The problem is that the scale just isn’t moving. Nor are my clothes fitting better (well, perhaps a little bit better). My question is does anyone think that I could be producing ketones solely from metabolizing dietary fat? If so, seeing the strips change color is, in fact, meaningless!

Or is it probable that I am really losing fat and the weight will drop more or less suddenly when my body chemistry changes? Thanks. Steve

Hi Steve!

Yes, it's entirely possible that the ketostix can be registering dietary fat and not body fat being burned; they don't make any distinction between the two.
Without knowing more about what you've been eating and how much, it's hard to make suggestions though. Can you post some sample menus so we can try to spot anything that might be causing a problem?

My typical daily diet is pretty much by the book Atkins until late in the day. Breakfast might be eggs (scrambled or egg salad with real mayo), lunch a piece of meat or chicken or fish - no sides. Dinner the same as lunch except I add a salad with blue cheese.

Snacks are usually a piece of cheese - either cheddar or swiss. Or occasionally I will have some pork rinds.

The "late in the day glitch" is that I will have a couple of glasses of wine several times a week. Could this be the failing?

Yep, not only does the wine have sugar in it, the alcohol metabolizes very quickly and your fat burning will be put on hold while the alcohol is consumed.
