Default Healing and Type II Diabetics

Have any of you folks found that cuts and scrapes take longer to heal? I had the operations for carpal tunnel syndrome in September and about a month ago and things seem to be taking forever to heal up. I may just be too impatient.

I know that diabetics have problems healing but why? Can we take extra vitamins or something to overcome this?

Hi Ruth!

I did notice that when my blood sugars weren't as well controlled as they are now that it did take longer to heal and this is typical for diabetics. Now it might take me a bit longer to heal, but not enough to really be as noticible as it was.
I just had surgery on the 17th and the incision is healing nicely and right on schedule.

Thanks, Lisa.

My fasting BGL is still too high so that is probably the problem. It's down in the 7's now (x18 for American) and should be 4 to 6. In the meantime, I'll try to be patient, not my strongest virtue! I am slowly plowing through Bernstein's book and may find the answer to slow healing in there.

I am glad your surgery went well and wish you continued fast healing.
