Default Counting Calories

Is it necessary to count calories along with carbs? I am losing weight so slowly and even gaining a half pound some days on my previous attempts. I am starting all over again!

I was attracted to Protein Power in the first place because one got to eat more. Now it seems not. What do you say?

hi KBell
Im doing Atkins.... but could identify with your post. To cut a long story short I was stuck for ages but my diaries , over time, showed that I lose at 1900. cal . Below 1600 I go into "starvation mode" 2000 and I gain.

A general rule if you wish to count cals is to take your weight in Lbs and X by 10 - 12.
( and coincidentally for me, the X10 is spot on for me )

you could try: www.fitday.com to easily work out your cals and carbs

Also, have you a journal ? Thats whats saved me.

Default I hate to admit it but it probably makes a difference...

Well, I'm another one who's had big time trouble losing lately and actually have gained back. I'd tried most of the advice for "stallers" without results but refused to count calories because of all the trouble and the thought that I spent a lot of time eating and there was no way I could be short on calories.

Well, I finally broke down and decided to find out for sure. I dug out my calorie book and the Protein Power Gram counter and then decided to follow the advice of visiting to Fitday. I started recording what I ate and had the surprise of my life when after dinner I'd only eaten 788 calories but had reached 76 g. of protein.

Now, I have a "wacked-out" schedule due to trouble sleeping so most days I get up around noon so I rarely eat 3 whole meals, it's more like 2 meals plus snacks but since I never go hungry and eat some "fatty" foods I thought calories couldn't be my problem. Well, that's what I get for guessing! I may also be having too much protein, at least today I already went over what I should have and I still have more than 600 calories to "cover". So, yes, sometimes counting calories is a necessity!
