Default Fiber...

How can you tell when you buy a product if they've already subtracted the fiber from the carbohydrate count???

You would think that manufacturers would say so, but some don't. If the product looks suspiciously low - say a can of beans - you can quickly figure it out by this formula:

carbs x 4
protein x 4
fat x 9

Together, these should roughly add up to the number of calories. If not, something is fishy.

This is not the most accurate way because the formula differs depending on the food. In Low Carb Tools at the top of the page is a hidden carb counter that is more accurate. The other method does in a pinch while you are shopping.
