Question Must have wine

Howdy, I'm Jim, computer geek, 5'5" 169lbs.. lost 9lbs in past 3 weeks. doing atkins, high cholesterol, hi blood pressure. I'm working out at least 3X per week and enjoying this way of eating BUT I must have my red wine back, I enjoy merlot, chiraz, cabernet sauvignon and such. I am wondering if I'm going to be bad, which is the lesser of the evils? I can't find anyone in town who sells the 1.9 brand of low carb wine, (stuff wasn't bad).

Atkins intended for people to learn low-carb as a lifestyle. That usually means adapting it over time to your own tastes and preferences.

Alcohol is an energy source--an easy one for the body to use. So, any amount of alcohol will have to burn off before fat-burning resumes. But if you don't mind taking your time along the lc journey, enjoying wine in moderation is simply another choice.

Don't bother with the low-carb stuff. If you're going to drink wine at all, choose something excellent--a much better investment of your carbs.

I'd say the same things about chocolate.

A lot of people, including me, choose to have wine on Atkins/LC. As long as you factor in the carbs and understand that the next morning's weight will be lower because of dehyration, go for it. It's a trade off - you burn off the alcohol first, then go back to burning fat.

I've never heard of "LC wine" - most wines (dry wine) are LC anyway. White wine is lower carb than red. Only sweet wines (dessert, Ice Wine) are high carb.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for the encouragement and info!, I read in a post in the general section that the yellow tail shiraz is one of the "best" (dryest) choices. I'll give it a whirl (in moderation) and let you all know how it affects my loss.

I'm a numbers freak and was looking for a definitive source for carb counts for specific wines... I've found a few brands that list them on their websites, but NONE will put the numbers on the bottles... grrrrr

I must have low willpower. I now have to go out and get some wine. Sounds like a good thing to sip until the weather warms up.

I usually choose red wine. Although it has a higher carb count, as long as I'm choosing to consume alcohol, I want to take advantage of the reported anti-oxidant qualities of red over white.

According to my DH, I'm genetically unable to just chill out.
