SAM-e vs Methionine
On occasion, I would like to take additional methionine for liver support (major exposure to toluene and benzene in the form of exhaust gases, and methionine is used in the detox pathway for these two chemicals). It looks like one way to get this is to take SAM-e, which I know is also suggested as an alternative to SSRIs.
1. Is SAM-e simply a more-easily absorbed form of methionine?
2. If I take SAM-e irregularly, am I likely to cause a "crash" like the problems caused by stopping an SSRI suddenly? I took St. John's wort once because of its anti-viral properties, got badly sunburned, quit, and had a HORRIBLE crash coming off that.
3. Would the crash be different if I took straight methionine?
thx
