Question Malodextrin

Will drinking a few glasses of a non-caloric drink with some malodextrin in it raise my insulin levels during induction and prohibit weightloss. Even though no carbs are in the beverage? Just curious.

Maltodextrin is a high-glycemic carbohydrate, and will affect blood sugar and insulin level. Of course it depends how much you consume.

A product which shows "zero" carbs per serving may in fact have as much as 0.9g of carb in it ... Labelling laws in the US permit anything below 1g to be listed as "zero". If you're having an amount that's equivalent to 3 or 4 servings, those partial carb grams can add up. Note also that in the US, manufacturers can label something as "zero calories" if it has less than 5 cals per serving.

Just a suggestion, but your best bet is to observe the amount that's considered one serving, and count as 1g carb to be safe.

Yup...maltodextrim HAS carbs.

That's the reason why Splenda packets need to be counted as 0.9 grams of carbs. If you get your hands on liquid splenda, or use products that use liquid Splenda, then you do not have to count the carbs.... but it's not 100% agreed upon that artificial sweetners will not stall you or cause a small insulin release.
