Most sugar alcohols are partially absorbed. That means you do have to count some of the carbs coming from them. Most gums though maybe have 1-2g carbs is all, so I wouldn't sweat it as long as it's not an all the time thing that prevents you form getting your water intake in.
For some people anything sweet tasting can cause an insulin reaction according to CAD. For them gum could be a problem. If you are already chewing the gum, then just watch how you react to it.
