Default need help, PLEASE!!!!

hello, everyone! i really need some help on a recipe that i came up with yesterday for a low-carb shake that i can have for breakfast or lunch. i don't like eggs and i don't want to be stuck eating bacon and veggies for my two complimentary meals.

1/2 package of sugar-free jello (box says 0 carbs but i'm sure there is at least a couple)
2 tbsp sugar-free jello pudding (to thicken it and add a little flavor)
1-2 scoops of protein powder
1/3 cup heavy cream
1.5 cups of water
ice cubes

does anyone think it needs tweaking? any input would be appreciated!

cheers,
samantha

Hi Samantha,

I hate to rain on your parade. This sounds like a good shake to have, BUT, (there is always a but, right ) I really don't think this is CAD legal. For one thing the cream. You are not alllowed to have more than 2 oz of cream, which you could still do by making it 2 oz (1/4 c ) and adding some water to give you the 1/3 cup. I think the thing that bothers me is the pudding. Since it is sweet your body might think it is sugar and release the insulin and cause cravings for the rest of the day or stall your weight loss. I know they say that you can have some jello for your CM, at least they do in the orginal CAD book, but the same thing could happen, your body might think it is sugar because it tastes sweet and might release the insulin or cause cravings. Everyone is different, and you might be just fine with it, but I sort of have my doubts. I guess if you want to give it a try and see what happens you can and let us know how it works for you. If you don't lose any weight or if you have cravings after drinking this then you need to stop drinking it.

I know I get tired of eggs and bacon for breakfast also, but you can have other things. It doesn't have to be what we have always thought of as breakfast. You can have chicken, beef or something left over from dinner that is legal.. Have you ever tried crustless quiche? This is very good for a breakfast. Keep us posted if you try the shake. Just remember if you start to crave or become obsessed with food quit drinking it.

Good luck.

thank you, diane! that was a very thoughtful reply and i appreciate your input about my shake. i will take your suggestion about the cream/water and give the shake a try for the first week. the scale will definitely tell the tale. it just sounds like it would be somthing really good to have in the morning. i can deal with big salad and a protein at lunch but i just can't do eggs and veggies in the morning!! oh,i may just use a tablespoon of the pudding mix instead of two.

cheers,
samantha

I'm actually more worried about the pudding mix, even in a small amount, due to the starch in it. The general rule of thumb is no foods at cm with more than 4 carbs an average-sized serving. I'm not so sure just using less OF it than a regular serving would help at all.

Let us know how this works for you. Just remember if you start to become obsessed with food or the cravings start. it probably is the shake.

Good luck. I hope this works for you. Sometimes it would be nice to have something simple like a shake.
