Welcome Susan,
Actually a lot of people do feel crappy at the very start. But with in a few days those feelings go away and you will have a real abundance of energy. It really is common. Welcome to the forums and good luck!

All of those symptoms are normal for the first few days, or even week of induction. In the book, Dr. Atkins advises adding another cup of vegetables in to lesson them, but it's mostly carb withdrawal believe it or not. Powerful stuff.

I promise, it will go away and you'll feel great!

Hi,

Welcome to the forums. It's my first week of induction as well. I felt really lousy yesterday as well, very tired and drained. I feel al lot better today though. I found drinking loads of water helped. You will feel better and the energy will kick in soon which is what i discovered on my past attempts at atkins.

Tammy

If you like avocado, they are a wonderful source of potassium. You might consider using a salt substitute as well, they are mostly potassium. Many people highly recommend extra potassium, including Dr. Atkins.

I felt tired, but not crappy, for almost a week...and then I felt like I'd gotten supercharged. Hope it happens for you soon.

Dark leafy greens have loads of benefits and relatively few carbs. And you can add meats and dressings for small amounts of carbs for a snack or meal.

Hi Susan!

Welcome aboard! I felt blah and crappy the first week, but now in the middle of week 3, I have so much energy (I feel like the energizer bunny!).

Hang in there, and these wonderful people know what they are talking about and give excellent advice. Maybe the extra veggies will pull you up. Whatever you do, keep at it! You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself!

Best Wishes!

Pam

Welcome aboard! I hope you are feeling better. If not I hope you stick with it. It is well worth the withdralws you are going through.
The first time I started LC I was sick as a dog. I felt like I had the flu. Then after that wore off I was so hyped up that I couldn't sleep. My mind would just race. It is a wonder that I stuck with it. It took me about 3 weeks to feel normal.

Best wishes on your journey.

Not only did I feel bad all around, I was crabby! Don't feel bad about just relaxing (if that's an option). I slept in and watched a couple movies. Then on the 4th or 5th day I woke up feeling great with so much energy. I almost made for the days I was bedridden.

Half way through my first week of induction I thought I was gonna die.....muscle cramps, severe headache, and fatigue so bad it made me dizzy. I'm glad I wrote all my symptoms down, because right now it's so hard to believe.
Take lots of calcium, magnesium, and potassium for cramps (take it anyway) and just hang in there. Soon you'll feel better than you have in ages.
I know, it sounds like a miracle.
Maybe it is.

Thank-you , you very much for your replys and advice!!!!

aI still feel very lousy on 5th day , have taken off work for past three days!

I wonder if the diet is toosevere for an older person with A LOT to lose???

I have added an extra salad per day ...I wonder if I'm having too much cheese?
what is a normal amount?????

Did you say diabetic also. Best talk with some others who are diabetic (as well as your Doc) Low carb is a good solution for Type II but might be making the dose of your meds different. Sounds just like carb withdrawal-the changeover from carb burning does make you very tired.
