Well, you've learned your lesson about tonic water. You aren't the first and won't be the last.
Those 13 pounds you lost are a good sign it WILL work for you.
Alcohol of any kind gets burned as fuel before your fat will, a good reason to stay away while actively trying to lose.
If it was diet tonic water, the artificial sweeteners could stall you.
If it was regular tonic water, it did have sugar in it.
Either way, take this as a learning experience. Flavored vodkas on rocks have no carbs, and most bars have them. Something I'm enjoying at home is something I call a Pink Greyhound.

1/2 cup reduced carb pink grapefruit juice (Ocean Spray Light Ruby sweetened with Splenda)
1 jigger vodka.

It has 5 carbs and is great!
If having a drink (sip it slowly) is important, just take the slowdown that will come, and stay away from sugary mixers!

Dear Jessi,
There is no way you can gain 3 pounds of fat tissue over night. Most likely you have some water retention as alcohol is dehydrating (body answers by holding on to all water it has until you replenish it with new floods of H2O.)

Drink tons of water and make sure not to eat any salty foods for a couple of days and that water weight will probably come off real soon.

/gil - who also enjoys the odd vodka sometimes... hold the tonic though.

Every glass was 2 shot of vodka and 2 shots of water with a slice of lemon.. Hmmmm..
Woke up this morning and never gained a pound (woo hoo)
I forgot to mention, I never ate dinner that night, I didnt want to kill my buzz..
