Morning
Is feta cheese allowed(within the limit) on induction? Is it a soft cheese or regular cheese.
Thanks

I think not! It is 4.09g carbs per 100 compared with 1.28 for cheddar and best of all brie at 0.45. I think you should leave the feta alone for induction and remember to count the carbs if you have it after induction.

My Nutribase Complete Book of Food Counts lists Feta as having 1gram of carbohydrates per ounce.

The plus side is that if you crumble it into other stuff, as most feta-eaters do, you are inclined to eat much less than you would of milder and less salty cheeses. A heaping tablespoonful, to me, makes eggs or "salad" veg. palatable. This is expecially true of Bulgarian Feta or the goat- or sheep-milk feta from the Middle-East. The latter is particulary high-fat so the carb content will be much lower than domestic.

Yah I am really confused. There is a difference of opinion on feta. Seems to be a 50/50 balance on weather you can eat it or not. Think I'll finish what I have then not eat again till after induction.
Thanks

I beleive it is considered a soft cheese, I know I did not have it during induction.
Good Luck

Sorry, I missed the second question. Feta is a hard cheese. It crumbles.

Feta cheese is allowed during Induction.

If you check www.atkins.com you'll see that they include feta in several of their Induction recipes. Just bear in mind that it is higher in carbs than some other cheeses, so it's best not to go overboard with it.

From http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html
FOR INDUCTION "Cheese
You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semisoft aged cheeses*, including:

cheddar
cow, sheep and goat cheese
cream cheese
Gouda
mozzarella
Roquefort and other blue cheeses
Swiss

*All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count 1 ounce of cheese as equivalent to 1 gram of carbohydrate. Note that cottage cheese, farmer’s cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction. No "diet" cheese, cheese spreads or whey cheeses are permitted. Individuals with known yeast symptoms, dairy allergy or cheese intolerance must avoid cheese. Imitation cheese products are not allowed, except for soy or rice cheese—but check the carbohydrate content."

is feta considered in that catagory???

Yes.
Feta cheese is traditionally made from sheep or goat's milk.

There are many, many cheeses, made from cow's, goat or sheep's milk which are acceptable for Induction. But as I said in my previous post, count the carbs.

Rosebud

Edited to add that I meant "yes," feta is considered in the acceptable category.

Further edited to add that 1 oz of feta cheese has 1.16 carbs.
