Default L-Glutamine

I've recently read about a supplement called L-Glutamine that helps fight carbohydrate cravings. I've been doing Atkins for a few months, and completely lost my cravings for carbs, but I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, and have noticed that since the time change, I'm REALLY CRAVING CARBS-especially sugar. So far, I've been able to avoid eating them, and have also been avoiding sugar alcohols, because that seems to lead to wanting MORE sweets (the real thing). This is a classic symptom of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which essentially is having your body go into hybernation mode, and loading up on sweets adds to fat storage, which the "old brain" really strives for with this syndrome. Has anyone here tried L-Glutamine? I really want to stick to this WOE, especially now, since I tend to get sluggish, exercise less, and gain weight over the winter. It sounds great (L-Glutamine). Anyone have any experiences with it?

Hi Mabel,

I used L-Glutamine with much success at the beginning of my low carb journey.

I don't have SAD - it never gets dull and dark here (In fact I still need sunglasses to hang my washing on the line in the middle of winter ). So I can't tell you if glutamine will help you in this specific instance. But I remember so clearly the return of my cravings when I stopped taking it a little too soon, so I would suggest you give it a try.

Cheers.

Rosebud

Hi there! I don't have SAD either but I definitely notice that the sugar alcohols trigger cravings in me. I'm one of those people that can't handle the fake stuff anymore than the real sugar.

If you have sad then a sunlight lamp will help more than the glutamine. You can find them all over now. The light puts out the same broad spectrume light as the sun (So they say). My aunt has one and it seems to help her winter depresion.
