Default How do you make butter?

There was a discussion yesterday about difficulty finding good pastured, grass fed, butter; and this morning in the WSJ an article about fancy backyard farming tools. One photo was of Williams Sonoma's Butter making kit (which as far as I can tell is a mason jar for $30

I can get the pastured cream, but the 20 minutes of shaking already sounds like work So I searched for ways to use a machine...maybe a food processor?
Food Renegade uses a blender...anyone do this?

Found a few different "recipes"...so my question is...who makes their own butter and what method have you found to be the best?

I haven't made my own butter for years, but I have done it several ways. My favorite was in a kitchenaid mixer with the regular paddle attachment. It still takes about 20 minutes but the machine does the hard work! You still have to press it a bit to get the last of the whey out but that's not too bad. I've heard that a food processor works too but haven't tried it my self.

So after mixing, you then just squeeze out any excess water and buttermilk....And that's it? 20 minutes with the Kitchenaid sounds way better than shaking a $30 mason jar. Thanks!

I hope it works out for you. I don't remember the exact timing and it varies with the fat level of the cream, temperature , etc. It's not foolproof and you can find lots of old wives tales about why butter doesn't gather . http://www.oldandinteresting.com/hi...ter-churns.aspx
