Default Salt Cravings

Hi folks,

It seems like since I started this--it has been 12 days now--I have intense salt cravings. I mean, so much so that I find myself just eating salt out of the shaker and not being able to stop. Is this a sign of dehydration? Has anyone else experienced this? Or is it just a craving for more taste?

Kaelen

Default And it's August....

in NC. I've been pretty salt-intensive, too. Lots of sweat this time of year.

My own path involves letting my body tell me what it needs, rather than what I've been forcing down its throat from sugar binges, and if it wants salt, then let it have it. Make sure you're getting enough potassium, though.

Don't think it will hurt you if you don't have high blood pressure.

Question Smokehouse Almonds?

The first few weeks of any low carb diet can have a strong diuretic effect. If you've been needing a lot of salt and living with very hot temperatures, I'd be sure to also drink lots of water, too.

You can also test out your theory that you're craving 'more taste' by using things like Mrs. Dash, Tabasco sauce or other low sodium seasonings and see if it gives you what you're looking for.

I've been eating smokehouse almonds when I need a very salty snack ... I could easily eat a quarter cup of raw pecans in 5 minutes, but the almonds last much longer because they're so intense. They satisfy my 'salt tooth' and nut cravings.

However, I do strict portion control because I could work my way through a 6 oz can in a day or so. Right now, I split the can into 6 servings and I have my nut treat every afternoon.

Good luck ... and great job with the 11 days cheat free!! (It gets easier the longer you stick with it.)
