Default Liquid Diet Question

Due to flare of divirticulitis, I may need to go on a liquid diet for a bit.

Besides broth, strained cream soups, tea, soda, and SF Jell-o, any other lower carb suggestions? Juices are so full of sugar.

Thank you.

Shirley

I don't know if this fits in with the criteria - might be too much fiber - but what about pureeing some avocado, or soft tofu or an egg in with hot chicken broth and some whipping cream? Protein shakes may also work. No fiber, but you'll still get nutrition out of them.

Hi Shirley,

Much sympathy for the diverticulitis flare!

Been there done that! I find I do best if I have nothing but water for at least the first 24 hours. Cuts the pain down much more quickly than otherwise.

I then tend to introduce foods that are low in fat as well as fibre. After my 24 hours (or more, depends on how the tum is doing) of water, I add solids, usually things like small serves of steamed chicken breast or canned tuna with low fibre vegies like a bit of lettuce. The only reason I go for low fat at this point is because it's all my particular tum wants.

We are all different of course, so what helps me may not necessarily help you. So if creamy things don't increase your pain, by all means have them.

Hope you feel better soon!

Rosebud
