Obesity: This leads to insulin resistance and raised blood sugar levels

It's the other way around. And excess carbs leads to insulin resistance. IMHO

Default I have to agree Deb

It's the old chicken and egg thing.

Are we insulin resistant because we are overweight, or overweight because we are insulin resistant. Now at 22% bodyfat, I wonder at what level I will regain some more insulin sensitivity to be a normal person, and reality is, it probably won't ever happen. Eating all those carbs kept my insulin level and blood sugar so high my weight would only move up, even on 1200 calories a day.

Seems to be moving down now, although, slowly.

Later,
wsgts

I don't think it necessarily has to be an either/or situation. Even if you aren't insulin resistant when you gain weight, the more you gain the more likely it is that you will develop insulin resistance, especially if you tend to store fat in your abdominal area (that classic apple shape). If you have insulin resistance, even though you are currently thin or only slightly overweight, you will begin to gain weight, sometimes despite your best efforts, if you don't recognize the problem (high carb diet and insulin resistance).
Why do I say that? Because there are lots of people who are overweight who are not insulin resistant and there are lots of people who are only slightly overweight, but have an apple shape, who are. Obesity isn't the only cause of insulin resistance, but it is a contributing factor, just like a high carb diet in those whose bodies can't tolerate it.
