Question Sugars in Condements

I know that we want to reduce the amount of sugars as much as possible, but it is very hard to find some condements and flavoring with "tace" amounts, 2 grams or less. Is this ok, if used in moderation? Will this knock me out of ketosis? I am not talking about regular ketsup or other very sweet things, just some kinds of flavorings and hot sauces that as spice to life.

This site has been a wealth of information

Thanks

Default Hello Seattle

My DH still uses BBQ sauce and ketsup and has occasional trace amounts and still loses. Each person is different. Some people just burn energy faster. You will find out for yourself. If your still on induction,Dr.A says no.He want us to be rid of our cravings.
Lots of these products can be bought on line, but can get rather expensive.

While it's especially important during the 2-week Induction period to avoid added sugars, I think when you move up to the Ongoing Weight Loss (phase 2) you can expand the ingredients list a bit. As long as the largest % of your daily carb budget is coming from vegetables, then an occasional shot of Lea & Perrins or hot sauce is fine.

You need to take care though, because "2 grams here" and "2 grams there" can add up quickly ... One time, I had a busy day where all I ate was meats, eggs, cheese, some coffee with cream and a little bit of sauce and dressing here and there. No veggies. I got a real shock when I plugged it into Fitday ... racked up 18 g!!

I think knowing that these condiments are high in sugar, and don't really offer any nutrition for the carb-expense, tends to make us more cautious if and when we do use them. Whereas before in high carb days, we'd dump the stuff on like it was going out of style.

my 2¢
