Default Loosing It segment on Dateline and hypnosis

Did anybody catch the "Loosing It" segment on Dateline tonight? I wasn't surprised that the guy doing Atkins had lost more than everybody else(81 lbs). I was surprised about the guy who had lost weight under hypnosis, and his wife that quit smoking that way. I thought it was very interesting. Has anyone here tried hypnosis? I know someone who is a hypnotist and I was thinking maybe it could help me keep on track with exercising.

That was shocking about the hypnosis! I did not ever believe that that would work so well!

Nice to see that Atkins worked so well and even emphasized eating balanced meals!

If you do go for that hypnotist youll have to tell us how it turned out!

I bought a set of self hypnosis tapes that really worked great. You would just say a certain trigger word when you had a craving. Mine wore out unfortunetly. I've tried a few other ones, but none seemed to work at all, mush less nearly as well as that first one. I'll have to try to remember the name of the company that put it out.

I didn't see the segment, but I'm intrigued by the hypnosis thing. I'd love more info.

I loved that the guy on Atkins lost the most!

I was not too surprised that hypnosis worked so well. A friend of mine teaches HypnoBirth classes - hypnosis to deal with labor pains and she swears by it. I've actaully seen it work too.

About 15 years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer, Both my mother and I smoked at the time, So my grandmother sent us to a Hypnotist to try and Quit, My mother Has been Smoke Free ever since, I didn't make it thru the first day. I think the reason it didnt work for me is that I didnt commit myself to it, I didnt really have the want or desire to quit, and I didnt believe in it, I went in there thinking it was Crazy and a waste of time. I think I even sat there the whole time watching the clock, planning when i was goning to be able to "sneak" a cig. My mother was totally Committed and open to Hypnosis, and for her it was easy, She followed everything he said to a tee. Basically he replaced Her Desire to smoke with A desire to drink water,So now Moms addicted to water. (not a bad thing!)

I actually went to a group hypnosis session several years ago. It did work..... for about 15 pounds (which I eventually gained back) --- too bad I wasn't doing Atkins along with it. They did emphasize eating a salad at the beginning of the meal, eating very slowly, and attempted to set up a trigger/response to avoid snacks. I wasn't very good about listening to the tapes each day to keep up the plan. If you are committed to trying, and don't mind the hard sell for the supplements they try to push, it might be a helpful complement to a LC way of eating. ( I believe the cost is about $50 for a single group session now. They usually advertise in our paper for a week or so before coming in for the session.)
