What is the maximum carb intake for the day to stay in ketosis and still burn fat?

i think although dr. A says 20grams, it can be an individual thing.i slip into ketosis and start losing weight if my carbs go below 30.

keep it up. eventually you,ll get to know what you can eat and still lose weight without counting.it,s much easier than counting calories though, don,t you think?

it is much easier and the weight comes off much faster but i guess when you have a lot to lose it never comes off fast enough. i try to think of it as one day at a time set small goals but i would be lying if i were to say that i do not have my weak moments. i have tried the calorie counting and always failed due to lack of energy, this is much better.

I seem to be about the same as above 30 to 35 carbs a day, but I run 3 miles in the morning ,everyday so I think that gives me a little more leeway than the 20 that Atkins recommends. I also agree that it is an individual thing. Watch yourself and see. Good Luck.

Hiya cndngirl
I believe this varies a good bit from person to person. The point of starting <20 for induction is, almost everybody (except those very metabolically resistant) can be assumed to slip into ketosis with that level of carb. This is so that people can quickly start to lose (it's encouraging hey?) and also, because it helps reduce hunger which will make you want to eat. The absence of sugars from your diet for a few days also begins to cut off the cravings to continue eating sugars. After the induction period, when you move to OWL, you advance your daily carb intake by 5 carbs (each week go up 5/day) until you stop losing. Then you know what your personal level for critical carbohydrate intake is, that will keep you in ketosis (and losing, however slowly). Once you stop losing, or gain a little..back down 5 carbs to continue losing. Some people like to just keep on with induction level carb count, and there is not a problem with that, although sometimes they will find that advancing it a bit can actually help them lose, or get them past a plateau even.
Me, I'm happy with staying at 30 or under, as I'm doing a mix of Atkins and Protein Power plans.

Thank you all for your input, it help a great deal. The hard part is understanding the carb content in food at first but I think I am getting it.

I eat close to 100g carbs a day, and I still slip into ketosis sometimes. The nurses at work accuse me of ketosis breath sometimes, and I can taste that odd metalic taste in my mouth. I am very active and breastfeeding, so I think that accounts for my higher tolerence for carbs.

I am in ketosis as long as I stay under 60 gram of carbs/day. I think the carb level is very individual...
