Default How Low is Too Low?

I am still taking 500mg of Metformin per day. BG is between 110-120 in the AM....stays below 130 after meals. After exercise and after 6 hrs between meals BG drops to 70's and 80's. Question: How low is too low? Should I be happy with these numbers? (I have noticed that my hands get really cold when BG has dropped...weird.)

I really don't want to carry food with me in case of a Hypo! I am not even eating between meals!! Any imput (although I know it is not medical advice) would be highly appreciated.

Generally, below 70 starts to produce hypo symptoms such as lightheadedness, sweating and shakiness but not everyone experinces hypo symptoms at the same levels. Generally, I start to feel a bit shaky when I drop below 75 but someone else might not start to feel symptoms until 60 or lower.
I would say that as long as it's not too high, how low you can go comfortably would depend on how you feel.

Those numbers could still come down a little more; 2 hour post pradials 120 or less and fastings below 100, but if you keep at it, you'll get there.

Default The wife

My wife is pregnant, and has low blood sugar while pregnant (she's normal weight). Her Blood Sugar is always in the 60's and 50's, she doesn't feel bad, tired or anything. Doctor says it's fine as long as she is ok.

I got mine to 52 one time on 1000mg Glucaphage XR and 12 miles of biking and almost passed out.

So, it's a very personal thing.

Later,
wsgts

Thanks for the speedy reply Lisa! You guys are so helpful! I got zero guidelines when the drug was prescribed... I have a Yoga class tonite and will be at the gym for several hours, so I was concerned. Can't wait to see a new doctor!

I actually feel really good when BG hits 90 or below. Like I said...my hands get cold...that's how I know to test. Otherwise, I feel kind of slap happy...not a bad way to feel for someone who hasn't even had a glass of wine in 3 weeks! (After reading all the information on Metfromin on the Net...I was afraid I would get Lactic Acid...so, no wine.)

Default I think 60 is more or less "officially" hypoglycemic

I get a little bit cranky whenever mine is below 80. The lowest reading I've ever gotten is 68. I really wouldn't worry if it doesn't get down below 65 or so.

If you are worried about it you might get some glucose tablets. 4 grams of pure glucose per tablet. You'll bring it up really fast.
