This is what I wrote in that thread:

Please, don't worry - I've heard this can happen to some people in the beginning of this WOE. According to my Doc our bodies have to find some balance in this, after all - this is a major change.

Please, give it some time. A lot of changes take place when we switch to lowcarb WOE but as long as we do it right there's nothing to worry about.

Alina gives good advice! It may go up breifly, but for the vast majority of people - my hubby included, it goes down down down in the long run.

My total cholesterol went down a little, but more importantly my triglicerides went down and my HDL (the good cholesterol) went up. I think you will be pleased with your blood work when you get it done again.

I can't remember exactly what my levels were but at the beginning of Atkins I had my levels drawn and after 4 weeks they went down. I think it depends on the person and how their body reacts to this WOE. I drew my levels just as a curiosity thing. My mom and DH kept telling me that my cholesterol would go sky rocketing on this WOE and I just wanted to prove them wrong.

Don't panic.

Like most of the people here, my 5 week lipid panel had improved. Here are my results from my 5 week blood work:

glucose, electrolytes, liver function tests normal

uric acid normal

Lipid Panel:

Lipid Category---Baseline----5 weeks
HDL----------------52-----------42
LDL---------------166----------140
VLDL---------------20----------10
Triglycerides-------101----------51
Total Chol.---------238---------192
TC/HDL ratio-------4.6----------4.5

Hi!

My cholesterol has improved too!

My triglycerides are down by half!!
My HDL is up.
And my LDL is a little bit lower. But at least, even if I ate fat and red meat it didn't go up...

I wish it'll be the same for you!

I had blood work done about 3 years ago and it was good. I did not check the numbers again until after being on the diet for about 8 weeks. They were perfect. I am going to have it checked again in a couple of weeks. I am hoping to be down to 140 lbs by then.

i am the exception to the general trend!! my numbers went up. however, i will not give up this WOE!! i think that it will be ok for the numbers to go up a little till i get to maintence. then i can add some of the things the doc wants me to (whole grain cereals, breads) to my diet. i think as long as all the rest of my numbers stay good (which they are) loosing this weight is the most important thing right now.
