Question Help...Disney World next month....

Someone please help. We, my DH and myself, are both on the induction and last day is tomorrow. Howver we decided to continue it for a few more days or weeks.

Problem: On June 9th, we are departing to Walt Disney World with the kids for 10 days, which are in no way on induction but have been eating somewhat less carbs than before. We have decided to continue the good habits and eating in carb moderation while there. However, we wouldnt mind the occasional treat every other day. For example. a piece of bread one day, corn on the cob another, an occasional sandwich, maybe at least a dessert or two within the 10 days...It's not a lot considering the treats at Disney. I've evn planned out where we will eat and reviewed the menus. All Atkins friendly. No major junkfood but defenitely some carbs.

I've heard of people complaining that they're very sick just after reintroducing carbs into their system all of a sudden. My question is, when can we introduce them so that we dont get totally sick mid trip. That's the last thing we need.

Thanks so much for your insight.

I think if you do what you said - and introduce the carbs a little here and there (ie a piece of bread) then i think you will be fine. Often people 'fall off the wagon' and go on a carb binge, then feel sick after... if you take it easy, i am sure you will do just fine, and enjoy your vacation!!

Faeriegirl,

Thanks for your response. So you don't think I need to start the carbs before leaving?

Personally, i don't think you need to. But if I were you, i would maybe ease into it, as your vacation goes on. You will be able to tell as time goes on, how you are feeling with them. I allowed myself to order pancakes at a resturant the other day - the first time in 2.5 months that i have eaten carbs. And when 3 came, i ended up only eating 1 - i didn't feel sick - just really full. So although i was allowing myself a 'cheat' I didn't want to overdo it - and i felt pretty good afterwards. I think if you start with the carbs before, it isn't so much of a vacation thing - it might prompt you to fall completely off the wagon...

true. I don't need to start adding them on here.LOL I hope it goes well, we're gonna be doing a lot of walking from 8 am till the evening. Hope I don't get bloated, I love this new light feeling. I'll try and loose as much as I can while here, so that I don't feel so bad later.

Thank you

Hey CandyApple,

I'm envious...your going on vacation....lol ! When I went to an amusement park a week ago I totally binged on carbs that day eating things like cotton candy, fudge, corndogs & french fries and cheese and yes I felt sick and bloated. But you are going to be doing it in moderation and a little here and there so I think you will be alright. Well at least you are not going it alone and you and hubby will be there to support one another not to binge so I think that will be very helpful. Good Luck and have fun !!!

We can do this together

Hi Candyapple,

Thought I would share my Disneyland experience with you.
My DH and I took the kids there last month. I was nervous
and didn't want to totally fall of the wagon. And you know
what I didn't. I got on this forum ahead of time and got
some wonderful advice. Basically, planning ahead was
what kept me on track. I bought some LC snacks and
kept them in the refrigerator in our hotel room.
Some string cheese, macadamias, RTD shakes,
diet A & W root beer with cream (faux float) yum.
The kids had their treats at the park, but when I got
back to the hotel and as they watched TV, I indulged in
my yummy LC snacks. It kept me full and not feeling
deprived. And going into the park feeling full and content
I was able not to give in to the fake cookie smells that
comes out of those vents!!!!!
When we got into the park, I stuck to eating at the
restaurants. Good salads, and had a foot long hot dog
no bun. And of course, drank lots of water. The hotel
had a killer buffet which was probably the hardest for me.
Lots of fruit and of course morning danishes. I stuck to
omelets and a few strawberries. I knew if I gave in to
the carbs, I would feel sick, bloated and yucky.
Well thats my Disneyland LC experience.

Hope I have been of some help. Have a wonderful time
with your family.

It sounds like you have it all under control! You might also want to check out the WISH (no idea what it stands for, but it's a weight loss board) forum at The Disney Information Station. Lots of WDW fans and Atkins / Lowcarbers.

Default Hey, Onebzzymom

I live near Disneyland and you didn't stop and say hi

I think that adding a few carbs every so often on your trip should be fine. Don't fall off the wagon. I also encourage you to eat before stepping into the park to give yourself time to decide where to eat. Whenever I walk into a park I look at all the eateries before the rides.

Well, staying low-carb for LIFE is a challenge, isn't it? The post from the person who had been to Disney and stayed low-carb gave you the best advice, IMHO. Why risk what you have achieved for a couple of pieces of bread? Why risk feeling bloated and sick on your vacation? Wouldn't you rather feel energetic and light on your feet? Go prepared, and plan on only one or two small treats the whole week.

Whatever you decide to do, remember you are in control of what you eat, not the food vendors. Enjoy the trip and takes lots of picts.

Cindy

Thank you so much everyone. You all are so nice I wish you could be there with me for support but I think I'll do okay. I'm not saying I'll be a saint but I'll make sure not to reach the bloated point. I will check out that site, it sounds great. Thanks again for the encouragement and advice. I will still go back to strict induction when I return because I will most likely need to shed a few. Hopefully not though, the walks are long and I'm going to do alot of it. So we'll see. Thanks again, youre the best!!!!!!!

Terry
