Default hmmm...

Saw a little blurb on the news last night--apparently "studies" have shown that children who eat bananas, oranges and drink orange juice can cut their risk of cancer in adulthood. They stated that the vitamins found in these particular fruits are beneficial. Sounds suspiciously like an attempt to steer people back to these foods. I doubt there is anything to be found in a banana or orange that can't be found in other fruits and vegs. Just thought it was interesting..

Word I sounds pretty inconclusive. "make sure your children eat oranges and bananas, so they won't get cancer"??? Please. When are they goind to say "Make sure your children stay away fom those bloody sugary cereal and all those fluorescent candy out there!" or "Feed your children whol foods. Don't give them pop tarts, donuts and that junk. Feed them real, homemade food, made from fresh ingredient" Probably never. Because there's too much money at stake.

Ok, I'll calm down now

Default And who don't live downwind from...

You name it--your choice of industrial facility. Or who don't microwave in plastic, or live with a smoker, or ....

Everyone who ate pickles in 1865 is dead, so don't eat pickles? Almost the same logic.

Actually, the orange thing isn't new. Oranges and orange juice have been linked to reduced risk of cancer for a while. That being said, so have several other things, so it's not as if oranges are the ONLY things that reduce the risk of cancer!

I have never heard about bananas having any cancer risk reducing benefits. Of course, that doesn't mean it's not the case Sounds interesting.

I don't think there is any danger in notifying the public of this sort of thing if it's true. I don't see any harm in encouraging people to have their children eat healthy fruits. My kids eat a lot of low carb dishes because I do, but I also make sure they get plenty of fruits and veggies in their diets, even the ones I don't eat. I don't give them sugary store bought juice - but I have made fresh squeezed orange juice for them.
