I think both are important. Cardio will get your heart fit and help you burn fat. Lifting will increase your muscle mass, help you shrink and burn fat. Don't forget stretching. Being physically fit is a combination of cardio health, muscle tone and flexability.

Some people do cardio before they lift weights, some people do it after. I usually do a 20-25 minute cardio (bike, elliptical runner...) and then do a weight lifting session.

I do both. I do weights 2-3x /week. Other days, I do cardio, but my calories that I eat are pretty low, like about 14-1500 so I do it to keep my metabolism up, not to burn off too many. I usually do a 10-15 min cardio warmup before I do weights.
Paleoanth was right about the reasons to do both.

I do weight training 5 days a week. Mon, Wed, Friday upper body. Tue and Thurs lowerbody. Cardio, 45mins walking on the treadmill 5 days a week. I drink about a gallon of water everyday, take all my supplements and of course, eat plenty of protein.

Both! It's very important!

I would recommend talking to a trainer at your gym or Getting the book "Body for life", It's been on the best sellers list for a few years and there is a forum on this site for discussion too!
