Default Is it ok to do pushups/sit-ups every day?

I know normally you're supposed to wait a day in between lifting. However, is it ok to do these exercises every day? Thanks

Are you sore the next day? I know I did pushups and situp yesterday and today just breathing deeply hurts my abs, and picking up my fattest cat makes me wince.

The general rule of thumb is, if it's sore don't work it out - unless of course you're not trying to strengthen your muscles and have definition. A muscle being worked when it's still repairing doesn't heal properly and won't be as strong.

Default Abs yes, arms, maybe

The pain indicator is a good sign, if you're just starting out or pushing into new territory. But if everything's pretty stable, it's generally OK to do low-weight, high rep sets more often than high-weight, low rep sets. I know people who do 200 or 400 push ups daily, similar counts for situps. Heard of one mountain climber who did 400 pullups daily, but that's rather off the charts from our point of view.

I make more progress on the situp/pushup front if I do them daily, which doesn't happen in my life. But I'm only doing 20 of each, and it doesn't exactly totally exhaust me, either.

Esp abs--those "posture" muscles, which get used ALL the time just to keep us vertical--are hard to make much change in. Calf muscles have the same problem. So it's OK to hit them every day.

I read somewhere in "Muscle and Fitness" magazine that doing sit ups or working the abs everyday is okay with only 1 day off. They said that the Ab muscles did not tire like the rest or something like that. LOL!

it is ok as long as it feels ok. In general, such workout that you do without additional weights (resistance), just using your own body weight should be ok to do every day...
