Default question about carbs

Ok..I just back from my local wal-mart..whcih has no bearing on this post..but should be more like a drive thru 7-11 or something lol. Anyhow, I came across the atkins and carb products. I'm confused...and I don't care about all the details...just want to know point blank..

if package says "effective carbs" do I actually go by that?????

How about the atkins advantage bars that tell you right on the package to count it as only 2 grams...yet the listing shows way more than that????

Hi Shannon,

The point blank answer is "Yes, count effective carbs", BUT (and I know you don't want to hear this), if you're doing Atkins Induction, you shouldn't be eating any "frankenstein" foods.
Sorry, but they slow weight loss down for some people.

Hi Shannon, I wish I could tell you point blank - but this is one of those curly questions.

The carbs in the "way more" are sugar alcohols and sugar alcohols affect people differently. Many folk are stalled by them, while others have no problem. The only way to know how they will affect you, is to try them and see. (They do have a laxative effect, though...

You'll find more info on them in an excellent article by Doreen T in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

Sorry I can't be more straight forward.

Rosebud

The rest of the carbs in Atkins and Carbolite bars are from maltitol I believe. This is a YMMV component. It gives some people gas, etc...It causes some to stall. But, some can eat it with no problems. I don't get an gas, etc...from it...But, more than a couple will stall me.
