Default exercise before bed?

I really want Atkins to work for me. I've started 2 weeks ago and I'm reading all the success stories and they all have one very important thing in common: exercise.

I hate to exercise. I barely like walking... espically not in THIS cold weather. The ONE physical activity I love to do over and over is swimming. I have found a YMCA near me that has swimming but the only available hours for Adult Laps is from 9:00 to 10:00 at night.

Are there any hazzards/advantages to doing exercise right before bed?

I think any day you can exercise is better than one that you do not - if that is swimming at night - then swim at night. Before I got my home gym equip I worked out at the gym from 9-10PM (or later) fairly regularly.
One problem you might experience is if exercise (and the driving back and forth, the changing of clothes, showering, etc.) wakes you up too much to fall asleep at your normal time - or makes you sleep less deeply. Some have this experience with exercise, some don't . Or iif exercise makes you ravenous and you are trying not to eat late at night - if this is the case, just plan for an appropriate small snack on your drive home.

Default The secret: consequency

At our place we have a pool and a gym - free for residents, and open 24/7. People use both the pool and the gym from 4 am to after midnight every day. Watching people here I could not find connection between the amount of lost weight, gained muscle and the time WHEN somebody exercises. On the other hand there is a direct connection with the frequency, consequency.
If you read success stories, exercise threads, gym logs here, you' ll come to the same conclusion.
Do anything you like, anytime you like - you will see improvement:-)

I prefer to run early morning, because here that is the only cool time from March to October.
But my favorite swimming time is after lunch. Reason: nobody else is there, so for an hour I have my "private pool".
For weights - any time when the gym is emtpy, so I am not forced to watch ESPN or CNN :-)))

I execise from 9:30 to 10:30 P.M. It helps me sleep through the night better. I think it depends on if you are a night owl by nature or a early bird.

Default Can't Sleep

Good posts.

I guess it all depends on the person and on the exercise stimulus.

When I lift heavy at night, I won't be able to sleep till 3:00am or so.

Cardio and other oxygen demanding exercises seem to enhance my deep sleep.

As for being bored exercising - you know it takes dedication to be at the top.
To minimize the time in my training sessions, I train very heavy about 6 times a week for very short periods of time. This keeps me motivated and looking forward for the next training session while avoiding overtraining.

Good Luck

Loony
