Default Aussie looking for low carb HP sauce recipe

Hi there

Just visiting………I thought this would be the best forum in which to ask my question. My DH is English and has asked me if there are any low carb HP sauce recipes out there. Does anyone know of a good one? I’ve searched high and low and haven’t been able to find one yet.

This is a recipe that I have but it ain't low carb!

HP Steak or Meat Sauce
House of Parliament

4 pounds apples - cut up
1 pound prune plums - cut up and pitted
2 large onions - peeled and cut up
3 pints malt vinegar
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 cup table salt
2 lbs. sugar
6-7 1 lb. jars

Put apples, plums, and onions into large pot and cover with water. Cook until tender. Put through apple saucer or sieve into large pot.

Add malt vinegar, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cayenne pepper, table salt, and sugar. Cook on low heat until reduced and thick.

Can be canned in sterilized jars or kept in fridge indefinitely.

I've posted this in case anyone has any ideas as to how to make it low carb. I'm sorry I'm no help!

Thanks LisaUK

Well it's a start! Now I can see why it hasn't had the low carb treatment yet. It probably wouldn't be anywhere close to the real thing if you left out the fruit.

You may not be able to replicate the authentic HP original.

This is what is on the HP bottle.

Malt Vinegar(from Barley)
Tomatoes
Molasses
Spirit vinegar
Glucose-fructose syrup
Dates
Sugar
Salt
Modified Maize starch
Rye flour
Tamarind extract
Spices
Onion Extract

It lists this as 27.1g of Carbohydrate per 100g

The whole bottle is 425g. A typical serving would be between 5-10g.
