Default a strange question..

hi all, sorry its me again!

i jus have one q which has been kinda bothering me....i went thru most of the posts and in all i found one similarity....after the 3 phase when carbs r added back, it leads to enormous amts of weight gain!! what happens then? does everyone go back and start from induction? what do u do to get rid of this gain? and then what happens? if this happns everytime evn when u try to slowly add carbs to the diet, and always u have to cut back then when is the normal phase returin?
sorry for all the stupid q's everyone...gulp!

Well, as you slowly add your carbs back you will stop increasing your carbs when you BEGIN to gain. At that point you will find your critical carb level for maintaining you ideal weight (CCLM). You now know if you go over that threshhold, you will gain weight. Before you do that though, you will find your critical carb level for losing. That amount is the threshhold that divides the line between weight loss and maintenance.

I think what some people do is increase their carbs too much without finding their balance.

Hi vnd,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you talk about adding carbs back after 3 phases and gaining lots of weight. If you follow Atkins and go from induction to OWL where you slowly up your carbs by 5 per week by adding in berries, more veggies, nuts etc and move up the carb ladder to find your ccl, then as you get closer to goal you transition into premaintenance where you keep your carbs close to your ccl - just losing very slowly. Then you move into maintenance and keep eatting lc at the level your body can handle. My dh is in maintenance and is doing fine with lc. He stays within the 5 lb range of his goal weight. I am in OWL and am still losing about 1 lb a week with my carbs around 35 to 40.

If by adding carbs in after the phases, you mean going back to eatting "normal" or the old way, then yes I think you would gain back weight. That would be treating it as a short term diet which isn't what Atkins is designed to be. Hope this helps a little.

Marie
