Question 1st post

Hi everyone,

I started low carb diet last week of April and by today I lost only 5 lb. (after 2 weeks). I don't really know if this is good or bad. I have to say that when I started, it was supposed to be Atkins diet but I couldn't stay on 20 g carbs a day so I decided to go low carb and see what happens.
I tried to count my carb intake per day and it looks like I consume about 30-35 g carbs a day - is it too much? I feel pretty well and do not have any headaches but I don't loose a lot of weight either. Am I doing something wrong?

Over and over again you'll read people advising "YMMV", your mileage may vary. That's because everyone is different. It depends on how far you are from your goal weight, your age, your history as concerns trying to lose weight before (past yo-yo dieting can slow down present efforts), how much you exercise, how much fat you are eating every day, and your own metabolism. Among other things.
If you're trying low-carbing as a quick fix diet just to lose weight, I can see how you'd be discouraged with just losing five pounds. But if you plan to make it a life-time commitment, five pounds is great!
I really suggest reading a book like Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, or the South Beach Diet to give you a more complete view of how to follow "the program".
And good luck!

Hi and welcome. Another program you might want to check out is Protein Power - it's probably the closest to Atkins, but you start out with 30-40 g carbs per day.

Absolutely, definitely good. Any loss is still a loss, even if it's barely a pound a month.

Feel free to start a journal, and/or post a few days worth of menus. We can give you some better feedback that way.
