Default Low-Carb's effects on depression

A friend of mine has a teenage daughter who is suffering from depression. I have seen references to low-carbs effects on depression but can't find many now. He is interested in less medicated, more natural alternatives to helping her. Can anybody send me to some books or links that might have information on this?

Best regards,
PJ

Hi there!

I don't have the info you seek beyond that I've heard reports and read various places that depression is improved with low-carbing.

There is a Addiction & Depression sub-forum here if you'd like to do some reading there. Here's the link .

Have a great LC day!

Default Beat Depression

Hi PJ
In order to help with depression and increase the amount of REM sleep I always have a bedtime carby snack.
You need to finish your evening meal and then eat or drink nothing (apart from water) for at least three hours before bedtime. Then have a high carb/low GI snack before bed with no protein. I have a crispbread with butter for example.
The effect on the brain is similar to many anti-depression drugs. You wake fully refreshed with a positive outlook on the coming day and improved concentration.
Just remember to save enough carbohydrates from your daily allowance.
Dave

Talking From personal experience....

I have been fighting depression for awhile..and was finally medicated a few months ago. On my trip to getting better, I started the atkins diet. Ive been on it for about a week now, and I feel 10x better. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder...having alot of mood swings and so forth. Going on this diet has helped MEGA with straightening out my bloodsugar. My mood has improved drastically, I have more energy, and feel better than ever.
Just food for thought....
