Default Dont shoot! A yogurt question...

The Blue Bunny Lite-85 yogurts....Someone said on here the carbs are around 9 for a 6 oz container....This is from Low Carb Luxury...

Before you look at the label that shows a carb count of 14 per serving, check out our article on The Yogurt Exception that explains that while they legally have to list the carbs that way, the truth is these little paks come in at about 4 carb grams per serving. If you doubt it (and I am a doubter so I had to check it myself), I and two other group members put ourselves into a very deep ketosis (no other carbs for the day) and ate three yogurts. We all remained in the same level of ketosis over the next 12 hours. Having succeeded in our experiment, we now feel confident recommending these yogurts because they are just fab!

Sooo..do I count 4...or 9...? Heres the ingredients for the Vanilla..
Cultured Pasteurized Grade A Fat Free Milk, Flavor Base (Vanilla and Crčme Flavor with Other Natural Flavors, Modified Food Starch, Citric Acid, Sucralose, Potassium Sorbate as Preservative, Annatto, Yellow 5), Whey Protein Concentrate, Modified Food Starch, Gelatin, Polysorbate 80, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3.

Serving Size 6 Oz Cup (170g)
Servings Per Container 1

I know its like beating a dead horse but Im confused. I searched it, and Ive read the yogurt discussions...has anyone figured out how many carbs this stuff actually is? Thanks

Hiya El,

I'm afraid if a yoghurt label says it has a carb count of 13, that's pretty close to what it really has.

Doreen explains it here: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=138905

Cheers.

Rosebud

Yogurt can be a healthy addition to a diet. Since you are on maintanance and working up your carbs, it won't hurt you You'll be amazed at how easily it fits in even when you count full carbs.

You might look into larger containers of whole milk yogurt as well. It may help to save money over time, you can eat just 1/2 cup at a time instead of a full one, and you can add the fruit or flavor of your choice. If you get a good brand you also avoid any artifical sweetners or chemicals. I love the StoneyField Farms whole milk yogurt (It's about 12 net carbs for a whole cup) or Goats milk yogurt for a slight change (It's about 8 net carbs for a cup).

Now that money just went to strangling level of tight, I may start making my own yogurts to save even more money.
