Question Salt!!!!!!!!!!

hey everyone,
After reading a million posts, ive kinda picked up the message that salt is to be avoided! This is absolutely not an option for me!! ATkins doesnt say this is necessary (as far as what i know), and i was curious at the reasoning behind this? Any help is appreciated.
Is it because it slows down weight loss? Is bad for your health? Or simply because it makes you bloated?
If it does make you bloated, are you still losing fat?
Thanks!
Carly

Excessive sodium (salt) in the diet is linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. People at risk for these conditions are advised to restrict their intake.

As for the what it means to your weight loss efforts, I can tell you that I am retaining water right now because of all the salty foods I ate yesterday.... 3 pounds worth of water!! It can wreak havoc with your scales!

If you enjoy a lot of salty foods, be sure to counter-balance that by drinking lots and lots and LOTS of water.....and be prepared for wild fluctuations on the scale!!

I am not really sure where you came up with salt is to be avoided. It is to be taken in moderation as anything else in life.

Too much salt in the diet is very bad. It can cause hypertention and other ailments. Too little salt in the diet and you go into a coma.

Excessive salt will cause water retention as well.

Cool

Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new here. Started Atkins 2 weeks ago. I was asking myself the same thing about salt. I LOVE a big hunk of London broil and tons of salt on it. I know salt in big amounts is no good, but is there a salt subsitute that we can use???

Thanks
Lis

There is a product on the market that is called "No Salt" that a lot of people use. It's a potasium substitute

Hi there,

I have to confess I am not a salt-o-halic but when I do use salt I prefer to use sea salt. I think it has better flavor..especially in cooking and I think my family uses less of it because of the taste of it. There may be some nutritional value too but I am not sure

Good luck
