Default Weight gain rant /w question.

I have been doing an extreme carbohydrate restricted diet for almost 3 weeks now.(not following a specific plan) At first I tried to eat vegetables, like everyone suggests, but found that if I did that I couldn't eat enough meat 'n stuff to be full(planning to add them later). So, for the past 2 weeks I have averaged =<10g a day. In around 1600-2000 calories a day(AMR is about 3100) with tons O' water(which is my prime suspect, actually). All went fine untill 3 days ago... Since then I'm up 5 pounds. Measurements have been steadily within error rate.

I know. I know. It happens for many reasons; I'm positive its not due to 'creep'. And my scale is usually very consistant, not moving throughout a day no matter how much I eat/drink and/or do/don't go to the restroom. But I just need confirmation, again, that eating too much protein isn't a bad thing-- Too much being defined by as much as 250g. Averaging around 190g.

...Damn that sale on shirmp and fish...

Also, if its possible I'm not eating enough: I could use reassurance in that... Guess the idea of "not eating enough on a 'diet'" is still too alien for me to truely accept.

Thanks.

Well it could be a problem that you're not eating enough. I ask the same question of myself sometimes. There a lot of crazy theories about finding the sweet spot of lowered calories but not too low. and many folks like to limit their protein to prevent spill over into glucose. (which happens to just about everyone to some degree)

You definitely should add fiberous, low carb vegetables. There's really no one who says that isn't good. It will help keep you regular and that could be related to your weight gain.

If you go by the 10-12x rule, you should be eating at least 2600 calories a day, the bulk of those (around 70-75%) being from fat.

It's not meat you need to make you full (although protein does a much better jobs than carbs), but fat. And one great way to add fat into your diet is things like sauteed mushrooms, salads with full-fat dressings, veggies in butter, so on and so forth.

If you're drinking enough water (at least a gallon a day) the water will be flushing itself through your system. Generally speaking, water weight gain is caused from too much salt in foods rather than drinking too much water, so if you're intaking a lot of things like bacon, sausage or other processed/deli-type meats I would look to that as the culprit.

I don't understand what you mean by saying that if you eat vegetables, you can't eat enough meat to be full. Fibrous vegetables should be an essential part of everyone's daily food intake. They are so low in calorie that you can eat tons of broccoli, spinach, etc and still have room for all the protein and fat you want.

I don't know if the 10x12 rule necessarily works as well for a larger person. When I started doing LC, I almost always ate less than the 10x rule would dictate and it didn't do me any harm, I lost just fine. Eventually my weight dropped to where it made more sense. There are a lot of web pages that will help you calculate your basal metabolic rate.

Please think about eating more vegetables, it is really important for good nutrition. Also consider reading a book (or two) and following a specific plan. That can make things a lot easier when you're just starting out with reduced carb.
