Default Sick after exercising??

Well, yesterday, after a lunch of ham, salad and asperagus, I went to an exercise room with my son and decided I'd start working out a bit. I rode the bike for about 15 minutes at a small speed, but did work up a sweat. When I got off I did just a FEW row boat things and then a FEW things where I pulled down on the stationary weights (for my shoulder/upper arms). When I got done I felt terrible...nauscious (sp?) and really, really whipped. My blood pressure went to like 94/64 and my pluse was like 90. It's not like I am stagnant all the time...I work full time, usually walking the 1/2 mile to work every day, I clean regularly, I garden when the weather allows....When I got home yesterday, I slept for 2 hours and felt sick every time I got up, for the rest of the day. This morning I felt just okay, tonight I feel good. Anyone ever feel lousy after exercising? I didn't think I was in THAT bad of conditon. Now I'd discouraged from going back, and think I'll just continue walking...I've been on Atkins since August '03.

Could have been many things.

Too much salt in the ham which made you unbalanced and short of potassium. That would fit with the low BP.

Food just disagreed with you.
Food poisoning. Which would fit with feeling sick/nauseated every time you got up. Even if it was just slight.
Flu. Short-lived but real.
Just where you were chemically for the day.

If you feel better today, then it was just a one-day event. If it happens again, then please consuly your own doctor to be taken care of.

I agree. It also could have been a 24 hr virus. How are you today? Also, are you taking a multi vitamin? Pottasium?

You could have just over done it a little bit. If you aren't used to that kind of exercise...you heart rate may have gotten too high. I work out at Curves and have since Feb 04. I still tend to over do it sometimes. I start out feeling really good and next thing I know it my heart rate is at 30 (10 second count) when it should be at 25. I notice I feel nausiated when I do this. So sometimes I have to push myself to slow down a bit even thought I feel like I could run a marathon. So don't give up on working out. Weight training is very good for you...it is important. Just take it slow and build up to a faster pace. Keep up the good work!!!

Probably something you ate, my bet too is the salt in the ham!! But I wouldn't say it had anything to do with your diet and more to do with the different type of exercise....since you were not used to it!

24 hour viruses do not exist, so you can scratch that off as the culprit!! Might have been food poisoning from a bacteria, but not a virus!! ;-)
