Default Crying time, and now I'm hungry--why?

So it's been a weepy couple of days--talking a friend through euthanizing her dog; co-worker's husband dying. Ugly, but life on life's terms, and that's why we cry. But now I'm hungry--it's real hunger, stomach growling stuff, not a craving for comfort food.

However, I really "shouldn't" be hungry, based on what I've eaten today and how active I haven't been.

so what's the mechanism that makes us hungry after we cry? I remember a woman who ran a halfway house for women saying their grocery bills were enormous from the crying jags. Can't say I ever pondered it before; I used to just eat. But now I'm curious.

Any info? thx

All that crying and emotion takes energy so you've probably been burning more calories than you realize, which is why you're hungry. At least that's my theory. . .

Is it close to TOM, or is there a chance of pregnancy? Hormones can make us weepy and hungry.

Alot of it though can be the energy expended crying, not to mention the stress. Your body doesn't know emotional stress from physical all the time, so it could be gearign up for hard times ahead. Just make sure you're eating a good percentage of fat, that's what tells our brains we're full. Go ahead and have a snack with protien and fat when you feel hungry. If you still feel hungry after eating that, try taking a nice long walk to calm yourself and get fresh air. That or have a nap. You'd be amazed how a walk or some sleep can sooth emotions. Taking a moment to do some deep breathing and gental stretching can also help.

And an interesting point: I am usually very hungry on the day before I lose some pounds. So eat protein! And wait!
