Just sitting here eatting my cheese and drinking my water with a killer headache. How long does this last, and I'm not real sure what I should take for it, any idea please let me in on it.
Last night we went out for dinner and I had a small salad and grilled chicken, passed on the wine and bread but felt full... and to my surprise I am down another pound today... I am feeling great about how easy this really is to do... I'm doing an High Five to Dr. Atkins... wish I could share a dinner with him... smiling..

Caren, a lot of people experience discomfort in the first few days on Atkins. Detoxing, carb withdrawal, caffeine withdrawal -- it's to be expected and it will go away. The amount of time and discomfort vary from individual to individual.

I didn't have headaches. I felt very tired, but didn't have the headaches, so I don't know if this works, but in one of the low carb books I read (blush; I dont remember which one!) the doctor author said she suggested Alka Seltzer Gold to her patients who had headaches.

Drink lots of water! And, last but not least, cheese can trigger headaches in some people. If the headaches are really awful, maybe cut out the cheese for a day or two.

I hope other people who had headaches with more practical advice will chime in.

Welcome!

hi caren, and welcome! Congratulations on your excellent loss so far. I hope you and Dr. A get to share steak and salad one day, too.

Headaches--yup, had them. I also had to rest more those first days. I used aspirin, iced the back of my neck/head while lying down, napped when I could, and they passed--for me by day 7, but YMMV.

Also (and I don't know you yet, so I'm a little shy to recommend it!) sex helps ease them. (I must go off and blush now. lol)

I had an absolute KILLER headache for more than 24 hours starting late evening on Day 1. It was the strangest headache I've ever had - usually, whether they be migraines or not - I can best deal with them by lieing down and being still. Getting up and moving around is the worst thing to do. This one was the reverse - if I laid still in got steadily worse. If I stood up and walked around the house it would nearly subside to just a dull ache. So I spent the entire night from Day 2 to Day 3 walking around the house for a couple of hours at a time. Ibuprophen didn't touch it.

But I was drinking LOTS of water and on Day 3 and Day 4 it was much less intense and would fade in and out through the course of the day.

Since then, I've had a few headaches (but NO migraines - YEAH!) but, with the exception of this past Tuesday, they have been short, mild and responed very well to Ibuprophen. The one I had this week was almost certainly due to dehydration and going too long without eating.

Keep the Faith - the headaches will pass pretty soon. Keep up the water intake.
