I"ve been eating a fair bit of pastrami over the past few days, especially for lunch. Is this any good for me?
Thanks

I don't know exactly, but if you are eating a lot of processed meats, they can cause you to retain water - especially processed meats high in salt.

Take a look at the packaging and see if they are labelled as at least 99% meat with no or very little added sodium - HTH

Yes, it was the sodium that I was a little worried about especially as I messed things up last week with some salami. It's difficult for me to know how much because I bought the pastrami at the deli counter. How is this viewed as a general rule though
Thanks all

When ever you buy at the deli counter, either look at the origional packaging the meat came in, or if they make thier own, ask the clerk for a list of ingredients. If you ask, most deli clerks are more then willing to go through the meats with you and help you find one that is low sugar or no sugar, and they would know if they have or could get nitrate free meat. If you find a deli you like, be a regular customer. When they get to know you they may be willing to special order items for you as they are assured you will pick it up and it won't have to sit. If you can manage to find a butcher in town, they are good to get a relationship going with as well. I think they are becoming an extinct breed

Pastrami isn't that processed. It does have a lot of salt however. I like and eat it but wouldn't have it everyday.
